IEEE PELS University Laboratory Kit
Last updated: March 3, 2026
1. Educational Purpose
The IEEE PELS University Laboratory Kit and all associated hardware designs, firmware, documentation, and instructional materials are provided solely for educational and research purposes. These materials are intended for use by qualified educators, researchers, and supervised students in appropriate laboratory environments.
2. User Responsibility and Laboratory Safety
Experiments involving electrical and electronic systems present inherent risks, including electrical shock, thermal burns, fire hazards, equipment damage, property damage, and other personal injury. Improper wiring, overvoltage conditions, short circuits, or component failure may result in overheating or fire. This laboratory kit is not intended for unsupervised use. Users and adopting institutions are solely responsible for:
- Verifying safe operating conditions before use
- Confirming voltage, current, and power ratings
- Ensuring compatibility with local power supplies and equipment
- Inspecting hardware upon receipt and prior to energization
- Providing appropriate supervision and laboratory safety training
- Complying with institutional laboratory policies and applicable regulations
Each adopting institution and instructor assumes responsibility for the safe implementation and operation of the laboratory kit. The authors and contributors do not control the conditions under which the kit is assembled, installed, modified, transported, stored, or used.
Regulatory Status: The laboratory kit is designed to operate from commercially available, externally certified power supplies or standard USB power sources. The kit itself is intended for educational and research use in supervised laboratory environments and is not evaluated as a standalone consumer product under UL, CE, or similar certification programs. Adopting institutions are responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable laboratory safety policies and local regulations.
3. Shipment and Handling
If hardware components are physically distributed:
- Recipients are responsible for inspecting materials upon delivery
- Any damage incurred during shipping, handling, storage, or third-party assembly must be addressed by the recipient institution
- Users must verify the correct assembly and wiring before applying power
Improper assembly, modification, or operation may result in injury or equipment damage. Hardware may be damaged during transit. Users must perform appropriate inspection and verification prior to energizing any circuit.
4. No Warranty
The laboratory kit materials are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.
No representation or warranty is made regarding:
- Performance
- Suitability for any specific application
- Compliance with specific safety standards
- Uninterrupted or error-free operation
- Fitness for a particular purpose
5. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the authors and contributors shall not be liable for any damages arising from the use, misuse, assembly, modification, shipment, or operation of the laboratory kit or associated materials. The materials are provided for educational purposes, and adopting institutions assume responsibility for implementation and use.
6. Assumption of Risk
By accessing, receiving, or using the laboratory kit or associated materials, users acknowledge and accept the inherent risks associated with electrical experimentation and laboratory activities.
7. Modifications and Third-Party Use
Users who modify hardware, firmware, documentation, or replicate designs assume full responsibility for the safety and performance of those modifications. Distribution or replication of materials must comply with any applicable licensing terms.
8. Third-Party Components and External Links
References to specific components, manufacturers, distributors, or external websites are provided for educational and illustrative purposes only. Such references do not constitute endorsement, sponsorship, or affiliation with any company or organization. The IEEE PELS University Laboratory Kit initiative and its authors and contributors do not receive financial compensation, commissions, or other benefits from the referenced companies unless explicitly stated otherwise.
9. Intellectual Property Notice
The laboratory kit designs, documentation, and instructional materials are developed for educational and research purposes and are intended to reflect commonly taught engineering principles and publicly available technical knowledge. The authors and contributors do not intend to infringe upon any valid intellectual property rights. To the best of their knowledge, the materials are developed in good faith and are not derived from proprietary or confidential sources. If any party believes that material associated with this initiative infringes upon intellectual property rights, they are encouraged to contact the authors so that concerns may be reviewed and addressed appropriately.
